Jev as a checkpoint decision layer for agent next steps

The author maps protein-folding timing onto agents: before each step, hand Jev the current state and get back a structured KEEP GOING / GET CONTEXT / REVIEW choice that code routes on.

SPEEDING UP A CELL’S PROTEIN FACTORY CAN MAKE THE PRODUCT WORSE. A ribosome builds a protein one amino acid at a time. The growing chain can start folding before assembly is finished. That means the pace of production can affect the shape you end up with. Research on co-translational folding shows why timing matters. Changing translation speed can change the folding route. Slower steps help in some cases; faster steps help in others. Getting the sequence right is only part of getting a working protein. That’s a useful way to think about AI agents. We celebrate how quickly they move from a plan to a tool call. But the next step might depend on a source nobody found, a test nobody ran or permission nobody gave. The checkpoint is where Jev fits into the software: → Enough context for the next step? KEEP GOING. → Missing evidence or a failed tool result? GET CONTEXT. → An unresolved decision or required approval? REVIEW. Give Jev the current state and a narrow question. It returns a structured choice your code can route on. Claude gets the investigation or writing that the handoff actually needs. Permission checks stay in the application. A useful hold has an exit condition: the source arrives, the test passes, the reviewer approves. The result goes back into the state before the agent tries again. Waiting without changing anything just creates a loop. Biology is the analogy here. The animation illustrates a proposed checkpoint pattern; it isn’t a molecular simulation or evidence that Jev makes agents reliable by itself. The Jev article below explains the decision layer. Look at your own workflow: what needs to be true before your agent is allowed to take its next step?
