OpenAI's Codex default context bump to 500K draws criticism
A user says OpenAI's update only raised Codex's default context from 272K to 500K, which could already be set to 1M manually, and that long context was never charged extra on subscriptions.
Day 7 of the OpenAI sprint: they’re trolling us. 1. Increasing the default context from 272K to 500K. This isn’t a new feature. You could already manually set it to 1M in Codex. They literally just changed the default. Proof: https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2089082893804896524 2. No extra fees for long context? Those fees were never charged on subscriptions in the first place. Tibo himself explained this before. Proof: https://x.com/thsottiaux/status/2076543065045795309 I wouldn’t even call these improvements. This is just a joke at this point. Two requests: please stop trolling us, and I’d like everyone to receive a banked reset for this.
