GPT-6 Astra plays Minecraft for 141 hours, loses everything to a creeper
In a Vals AI test, Astra played Minecraft in real time with standard keyboard and mouse for 141 hours, progressing further than prior models before a creeper destroyed its chest and all its collected items.
GPT-6 Astra spent 141 hours playing Minecraft in a test by Vals AI and progressed further than any model Vals had tested before, only to lose everything it had collected because of a creeper. The model played in real time using only standard computer controls, without any specialized tools or pauses. Astra built a semi-automated blaze farm and collected 6 blaze rods. It then found a warped forest, killed more than six Endermen, and collected 3 Ender Pearls. Blaze rods and Ender Pearls are used to craft Eyes of Ender, which lead to the End Portal, so Astra wasn’t actually that far from beating the game. Astra put everything valuable into a single chest during a Twitch stream. A creeper wandered by and blew up both the chest and Astra’s bed, destroying all of its progress. After the loss, it seemed to be genuinely upset. According to Vals, Astra even wrote itself a rule: “ALWAYS KEEP CRITICALLY IMPORTANT ITEMS WITH YOU, RECORD THEM IN YOUR INVENTORY; NEVER STORE THEM IN UNPROTECTED CHESTS AGAIN” After that, the model appeared dejected and spent several hours doing nothing but farming potatoes. Following the creeper incident, the AI also seemed to become afraid of sugar cane because it’s tall and green, just like a creeper
