OpenAI's voice Dots demo feels awkward but will improve
The author says voice assistants are still early: the Dots demo felt unnatural, the assistant kept narrating its actions, and users ended up talking like robots, but it should improve like GPT-3.5 did, and the presenter handled the rough demo well.
couple of thoughts on OpenAI’s voice Dots demo: - Voice interactions with your assistants are still so early, and right now watching a demo like this feels painful. It doesn't feel natural, the assistant is constantly narrating what it's doing, and you end up talking like a robot yourself. But this will only get better from here - remember GPT 3.5 and how bad it felt the first time you interacted with it. Similar scenario here - feels weird until it doesn't - Finally and most importantly: @hollllyli absolutely crushed it. As a woman working in tech I know how much heavier a failed demo can feel when you’re a woman. I really felt her determination to get back in there and show us how good the product she built actually is
