Why the strongest models like Argon go to security teams first, discussed
A post compares Mythos 5, Gemini 4 Argon and GPT-5.5-Cyber all being opened to defenders first, and asks whether it is fair that the public only gets the guarded version.
The strongest AI models now go to security teams first. The rest of us get the version with the brakes on. Mythos did it. Argon just did it. OpenAI did a version of it too. Anthropic: Mythos 5 went only to Project Glasswing partners for defensive cyber work. The public got Fable, the same model with tighter safeguards. Google: Argon went to trusted cyber defenders through Fairwind, without the cyber guardrails. Paid API and Ultra come next, no date. OpenAI: GPT-5.5-Cyber started as a limited preview for vetted security teams. The case for it: Google says Argon can find and patch serious vulnerabilities on its own. A model like that should meet defenders before attackers. The case against: the rest of us get the cautious version, and sometimes it's too cautious. Fable flagged a basic biology question as a risk, and Anthropic said its safeguards can flag safe content too. I can see both sides and can't pick one. Fair, or annoying? Where do you land?
