Astra makes building games cheap, which may make taste the bottleneck

A long post argues Astra can model in Blender, build in Godot and iterate from screenshots of its own game, but with 74% of 720 weekly Steam releases getting almost no reviews, taste is now the scarce resource.

AI JUST MADE BUILDING GAMES CHEAP. THAT MAY MAKE TASTE MORE EXPENSIVE THAN EVER. GPT-6 Astra can now model in Blender, build in Godot, generate geometry, look at screenshots of its own game and keep fixing what doesn't match. One professional workflow reported 50% fewer manual fixes. Another builder generated an entire 3D roguelike level for roughly 3% of a 20x quota. The article estimates something like: ~1.5x cheaper/faster on code. 100x+ on parts of the art pipeline. Sounds like game development just became easy. Then you look at Steam. One week in August saw 720 new games. 530 of them, 74%, got between 0 and 9 reviews. That's the part I can't stop thinking about. If Astra lets everyone test 10 game ideas instead of 1, the scarce resource isn't going to be the ability to produce another game. It'll be knowing which of those 10 deserves to exist. AI can generate the environment. AI can write the mechanics. AI can compare screenshots. AI can iterate until the scene looks right. But someone still has to play it and say: “This isn't fun.” And know exactly why. The asset bottleneck is disappearing. Taste is becoming the bottleneck.
