Can a chatbot hold a wallet without being trusted with it? FTP Tech says its hosted connector is now live, so ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity can use a wallet on @CantonNetwork MainNet to pay for web services. CantonNews reported it on 8 Oct, and FTP's own page, which I read today, sets out how it works. The connector uses MCP, a standard way for an AI assistant to call outside tools, and x402, which lets software pay for a web service one request at a time. According to that page, FTP holds the key on the hosted version, encrypted at rest, so it's custodial. Every user is capped at 5 CC a payment and 20 CC a day, and the assistant can't raise that. Withdrawals only go to addresses you've confirmed with a passkey. To me, that cap is the real design choice. It sits on FTP's server, outside the model, so a confused or tricked assistant can't spend past it. The trust question moves from the AI to FTP. If you hold $CC, this is a usage test rather than a supply story. 20 CC a day per person is small, and it only adds up if paid services start pricing in CC. A bank's risk team would read it another way. The hosted wallet is a third-party custodian, while the local version keeps the key on your own machine under limits you set, and that's the one a compliance desk could sign off on. It's still FTP's own description, and there are no usage numbers yet. The cap is the product. I hold $CC and $CNTN. If you've connected it, which service did your assistant pay for first?
