Opinion: calling Astra AGI hurt its reception
The author argues that OpenAI branding Astra as AGI and Google overhyping Argon led to disappointment, unlike Anthropic's quiet Opus 5.5 launch.

Sometimes marketing a model matters more than the model itself. If OpenAI hadn't called Astra AGI, people would've had a much better experience with it. And if Google hadn't overhyped Argon, they would've gotten credit for the improvements. Instead, they framed it as a super model needing security precautions, which only led to disappointment. Just look at how quietly Anthropic released Opus 5.5 to see the difference.
