Developer uses ChatGPT Astra to reverse-engineer a 2006 Crestron system
Dave Plummer pointed ChatGPT Astra at his 2006 Crestron Pro 2's LAN address and within 90 minutes had zone names, power and volume control, track metadata and a basic web UI for an iPad.
My house has a 2006 Crestron Pro 2 system with Adagio audio distribution. It's so old, it has MIPS ColdFire processors. Three times in 20 years now, I've paid system integrators close to five figures each to program it because Crestron is totally proprietary. When it goes out of date, you're at their mercy. Or are you? I pointed ChatGPT Astra at the LAN IP address and pretty soon it had extracted all of the zone names. Next it got power control and volume control. Finally, I had it extract track and title info from the running stream. Then I had it put together a basic web UI so I could stick it on an iPad in the kitchen. This took 90 minutes.
