Weekend bird tracker built with ESP32 and Jev
An ESP32 with an omnidirectional I²S mic captures bird calls, BirdNET matches them on the backend, and Jev decides which sightings are worth surfacing; tested in a Bengaluru park.

Built a bird tracker over the weekend 🐦 An ESP32 with an omnidirectional I²S mic listens to the birds around me. The backend does the heavy lifting: matching calls with BirdNET, with JEV deciding which sightings are worth surfacing. Added some mystique to the UI with @rive_app . The card-back artwork isn't GenAI. It's a custom shader I built, inspired by colourful metal nanoparticles and Madhubani art. Took it to Cubbon Park in Bengaluru and it picked up so many birds. Next: reptiles, insects and small mammals. The idea: swap the doomscroll for a scroll that tells you about the life around you 😄
