Colombian paying user suspended by Claude under supported countries policy
A Colombian user who paid $200 for Claude was suspended two days later for allegedly violating the supported countries policy, even though Colombia is on Anthropic's official list, and support said it could neither explain nor lift the ban.

I’m genuinely disappointed with @AnthropicAI / @claudeai today. I paid $200 for Claude last weekend. 2 Days later, my account was suddenly suspended after Anthropic’s systems flagged me for potentially violating their Supported Countries Policy. There’s one rather significant problem: I live in Colombia. Colombia is literally on Anthropic’s own list of supported countries for http://Claude.ai. I’m not accessing Claude from an unsupported country. I’m not using location-masking tools. I’m not trying to circumvent safeguards. I’m a paying user who has made every effort to use Claude legally, responsibly, and in good faith. And yet I woke up today completely locked out of a tool that has become deeply integrated into my professional workflow. That has a real opportunity cost. My work was interrupted. My productivity was interrupted. Things I needed to get done were delayed. And instead of working, I’ve spent a significant part of the day trying to prove that I’m located in a country that Anthropic itself says it supports. I submitted the official appeal. Support then told me that they cannot explain why the suspension happened, cannot lift it, cannot escalate it, and that I now have to wait for Safeguards to review the appeal. I understand the need for safeguards. I actually WANT AI companies to take abuse seriously. But safeguards also need a functioning correction mechanism when they get legitimate users wrong. Especially when someone has just handed you $200 for the service you subsequently prevent them from accessing. And beyond the money and lost productivity: this genuinely made me sad. I like Claude. I use it extensively. I respect a lot of what Anthropic is building. Being suddenly treated like a bad actor when I have tried very hard to be a responsible user fucking sucks. I’m not asking for special treatment. I’m asking for a human being to look at the signals, see what went wrong, and fix an apparent false positive without making a legitimate customer sit locked out for potentially ten business days. I really hope someone at Anthropic takes a look.
