Canva launches Craft, its first frontier image generation model, built entirely in-house by Canva Research. It ranks 4th on DesignArena’s image leaderboard, making Canva the second-highest-ranked AI lab for image generation after OpenAI. Unlike most models that go straight to pixels, Craft plans composition, layout, and text first, then renders. Available today in Canva, via public API, and Canva MCP. A design platform shipping a competitive frontier model built for real creative workflows is a notable expansion of who is competing at this level.
