Changing only the decision layer lifts second-brain retrieval from 40% to 96% and cuts tokens 17x
With the same agent and note vault, replacing title-guessing and full-file reads with two rounds of structured Jev selection (pick files, then sections) raised correct-section retrieval from 40% to 96% and cut tokens per question from 21,000 to 1,200, while letting the vault say it doesn't know when the answer isn't there.
his second brain got smarter by reading 17x less one creator rebuilt his agent's memory and changed only the decisions, same agent, same notes before: guess a file by its title, read all of it, hope it's the right one after: two quick jev rounds, which files, then which sections right section found: 40% → 96% / tokens per question: 21,000 → 1,200 the best part is the question nobody asks: is the answer in here at all? he asked for his favorite pizza topping, a thing he never wrote down, and instead of an unrelated 11,700-token file the vault just said "i don't know" a second brain doesn't rot from bad writing, it rots from thousands of small decisions nobody makes
