Every tests DevDay launches early, finds Decisions API beats Jev on some tasks
Dan Shipper got early access to Dots, Space, plugin extensions and the Decisions API, says he would rather reach for a persistent agent than open a new chat, and notes that in early testing the Decisions API outperformed Jev on some tasks but not all.
.@OpenAI’s biggest DevDay bet: You’ll stop starting new chats and start handing your work to one ongoing agent. @danshipper had early access to the launches. After testing Dots, he found himself reaching for his agent, Boo, instead of opening another ChatGPT or Codex thread—even though the product is still rough. That shift connects the biggest announcements: 1. Dots gives you a persistent agent. It keeps context, works on its own cloud computer, and can proactively flag things that need your attention. You keep returning to the same conversation instead of opening a new thread for each task. 2. Space gives you somewhere to work together. Documents, spreadsheets, slides, and files live inside ChatGPT. Leave a comment, tag your Dot, and have it work alongside you in the document. Dan liked the implementation; whether it can replace the tools your company already uses is a harder question. 3. Plugin extensions let developers build for that workspace. Full apps can run inside ChatGPT, used by you and your agent. A directory and planned recommendations inside conversations could also give developers a new way to reach users. 4. Your subscription can travel with you. Plus and Pro usage can carry into participating apps like Devin, drawing from your existing plan limits. Dan compares it to a cellphone data plan: Pay for the capacity, then choose the apps. It starts with about 15 partners. 5. The Decisions API handles smaller, faster choices. Give it context and a fixed set of answers. It picks one—and accepts images as well as text. Our early tests favored it over Jev on some workloads, but not all. It’s being previewed, with pricing still to come. The catch: Putting everything in one place only helps if the pieces work together. Dan’s Dot got confused about which browser to use, struggled with logins, and sometimes missed messages. He’s still drawn to it. His advice for people who need reliability: Wait a week or two. In the full walkthrough below, Dan explains what matters across the launches—including Astra Ultrafast, Sol 6.1, and the new $500 Pro plan—and where the hands-on experience falls short.
