Early ChatGPT Dot hands-on: six takeaways

A user's early review of ChatGPT Dot: web and mobile stay in sync like chatting with a friend, the calling-style voice mode feels natural, cloud computer tasks can be checked and taken over, intelligence ranks dot > instinct > muse ≈ grokbot, and the main downside is that it talks too much on calls.

some early chatgpt dot reviews & thoughts: 1) the web + mobile app sync is good; the conversations feel more unified and continued (like talking to a friend) - on intelligence-level: dot > instinct > muse ~ grokbot (thanks to astra) 2) dot calling is cool: it's simply live voice mode but a "calling" experience makes it feel much more natural (+ replacing 'connecting' with 'calling' is subtle masterclass in UX) - my learning: make every agent experience feel like talking to a human (friend/teammate) - i've been using it as a background on-call agent (kinda like side chat) to ask Qs & make it do quick actions (ig chatgpt is using astra with ultrafast here - which makes it feel magical) - only cons: it's a bit chatty on call 🥲 3) having an interface is helpful - i can check what task it's doing on the cloud computer and even take control for it (found dots to be more conservative at doing actions than instinct - mostly a design choice) - i think it also sets a standard that all ai interfaces at any app would now look like imessage & single-threaded (dots exactly cloned the imessage experience which i felt nice) - i'd expect dots to be also available soon on imessage/whatsapp as it's always nice to have my agent accessible everywhere (and feel ambient) 4) i liked it having chatgpt memory and supporting all chatgpt plugin/connections this made setup v seamless and i didn't feel like i'm talking to a complete stranger 5) i'd have loved dots as a standalone app with just "sign-in-with-chatgpt" i always feel confused when i open the chatgpt app: whether i should start a new chatgpt chat or ask to dot? but yeah fair call to best use the distribution of 1.25b+ users and make dot more like a premium feature 6) dots proactivity is insane - currently, of all agents: it's flagging issues the fastest (eg. a pending reply to my visa application) (i think they have higher frequency cron/wakeup times running) 7) codex connectivity is still not smooth i'd love to control my codex completely via dot and get actual ambitious work done from anywhere i.e using dot as orchestrator for codex 8) i think chatgpt will monetise dots with ads + subscription (instead of proposed muse/instinct's take rate business model) this can be also their unique wedge to the personal agents market (and compliment chatgpt) where they're focussing less on commerce use-cases -- overall, instinct still has slightly better harness & personality but dot’s model (Astra) makes it better at intelligence for now, i’ll keep dabbling between dot & instinct as my personal agents!
