Muse free tier on shared compute, privacy behind a paywall
The author expects Muse to be CPU constrained, with free users on shared VMs and private VMs as a paid tier, and sees the kid-focused Muse Charm hardware as a new data stream for Meta.
$META Muse is going to clearly be CPU constrained as they onboard new users. But, I think they'll make the dedicated VM plan a premium tier, while majority of the free users will be on shared compute. In my experience, nobody cares about their data. Your payment details are likely stored at most retailers and they already know your age, address etc from your shopping habits. They also know about your kids and families. So most people will just get the free plan and be on shared VMs while META gets all their intimate data. Their tamagotchi product is genius. They're always trying to expand into a younger audience, and the Muse Charm will likely be used by kids. There are privacy concerns, but the utility is undeniable. If my kids can be locked out of every other app (no phone) and I can review the log of their conversations with Muse, I think it can be useful for their education and their safety. Tamagotchi was a pretty popular asian kids toy that taught them responsibility. I think META will spark the nostalgic desire in parents to give their kids a smart tamagotchi. It sounds like a fad, but I think it'll be a hit product. I told my kids they're not getting a phone till they're adults, but I'd give them each a tamagotchi and pay for the private VM. So it'll be a bait and switch. No privacy on free Muse. Privacy as a paid service. All this is pretty bullish on META. It'll redefine their business with this new data firehose. And yes, VR is cool too.
