GPT-6 Astra is too expensive, OpenAI needs a cheaper model
The author argues Astra costs too much and burns through usage, so OpenAI needs a new model at the same price or cheaper that beats Opus 5.5 to win users back.
After all of Tibo's hints I'm pretty sure OpenAI will release a new model at DevDay but it won't mean much unless it beats Opus 5.5. It needs to be far better than Opus 5.5 at the same price or cheaper, and the usage has to last longer than Claude, or users have no reason to come back. Astra 6.1 alone won't fix anything because Astra already costs too much and burns through your usage in real time. What OpenAI really needs is a GPT 6.1 Sol or something better that is smart enough to beat Opus and cheap enough to use all day. If not, users will stay with Claude no matter what else OpenAI shows at DevDay.
