SpaceX buys spectrum as Grok Bot bets against the app grid
SpaceX is reportedly buying Grain Management's nationwide 800 MHz spectrum for about $8B to pair Starlink with ground coverage, and the piece argues the bigger shift is Grok Bot surfacing things like boarding passes so the app grid fades.
SpaceX is buying Grain Management's nationwide 800 MHz spectrum, up to 14 MHz of paired low-band, reportedly for about $8B. Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile fell 5–7.5%, while SpaceX rose about 2.5% after hours. @thejefflutz says spectrum was the hurdle. Low-band goes through walls, so Starlink Mobile can now pair satellites with ground coverage. The next question is the device. Nearly all phones used in the US are made in Asia, and with Terafab handling the silicon, a SpaceX phone isn't a stretch. The bigger shift is the interface. Grok Bot users already open Gmail and flight apps less. The boarding pass shows up when you walk to the gate. Own the network, the chip and the agent, and the grid of apps starts to disappear. $SPCX
