Hermes accused of losing focus and drifting from personal agents
A user traces the rise and fall of Openclaw and Hermes, arguing that Hermes copied everything, grew increasingly complex, and has moved away from its personal assistant positioning.
**break news** Hermes positions away from personal agents It’s a bit humbling to watch the journey from Jan to date in the personal agent harness space I started using Openclaw Jan 3rd, Saw it go through the hype cycle and into oblivion Saw Hermes fight in the court of public opinion for the no1 seat, Wins it! Then go down the same path as Openclaw. I’ve been saying for months they have been unfocused, copying every under the sun and cramming it into their product. Started by copying Openclaw, copied codex to their desktop app, copied grok bot as quickly as it came out - all into one product 😳😳😳 Yet at the same time, me as a user kept feeling it get complex to use just like I thought Openclaw was before its public death. I guess this sums it up: “Too engineering focused” They are run by engineers, not enough product folks. Their founders are strong willed and being very technical enjoy building more stuff, they are in it for the building. If you asked me if I could have predicted where we are now, I would not have. But I suspect we are still very early and will be surprised by even how it plays out.
