Grok Bot produces a full solar permit drawing package in five minutes
After feeding Grok Bot house drawings and Tesla PW3 permit PDFs and DXFs, the author got a complete drawing package in under five minutes, including new roof layouts and one-line diagrams, ready to submit after a PE stamp.
I posted it because I found it hard to believe. To be sure, I had a lot of material to start from - drawings for the house, for the original solar, for a permit Tesla pulled to do a PW3 expansion and I gave it all that stuff (mostly pdf plus DXF for the house designs). I had been using it to advise me about local and state permit rules, what the local authority would require, and to do string calcs, EMT sizing / runs / fills etc. So it had a lot of info to work from. That said, it produced a complete drawing package in under 5 minutes which *clearly* pulled info from all the other stuff. But all the drawings were new and some of them - the roof layout and 1 wire drawings - were completely from scratch. I checked every line and it all looked good to me. I don’t know what the local permit authority requires so there might be issues but I’m going to submit the drawings as-is after I get a PE stamp for the structural stuff. The backstory is - I was trying to hire someone to do the plans and I had Grok Bot find a contractor and submit the info needed to do the plans but he was taking time to get back to me with a quote so, *on a lark* I asked Grok Bot if it could do the job and what info it needed. It said yeah and gave me a few numbers to collect for it. After I gave it that stuff I had a full set of plans in 5 minutes. I didn’t believe it but I read the plans and they are *beautiful*. I did not expect it to work. If you’d asked me if it could do this today I would have said no, not without quite a bit of handholding. So I don’t blame you for doubting it. I’m basically posting this as a public service announcement. If you use permit drawings in your work or want them for a personal project you should give this a shot. This is *by far* the least effort I have ever had to put into permitting a job.
