Beacon ships handoff for moving sessions between coding agents
Beacon, an open-source memory layer for AI coding tools, adds a handoff command that moves a task between Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode and Cline locally, without uploading anything.
Start a task in Claude Code. Finish it in Codex. You don't have to re-explain anything. We just shipped beacon handoff in Beacon, our open-source, cross-harness memory layer for AI coding tools. If you use more than one coding agent, you know the problem. You run out of credits, want a second opinion, or hit a task another model handles better. Then you start over and paste context back in by hand. Now it's one command: beacon handoff resume <session-id> --agent codex What happens: → Beacon reads the session from the agent's own local store and writes a short handoff brief: what was asked, what changed, which commands ran, and where it stopped. → It starts Codex in the same directory, pointed at that brief. → Codex says what it understands the task to be and waits for your go-ahead before changing anything. → Beacon records a link between the two sessions in your local telemetry, so the trail stays connected. It works across Claude Code, Codex CLI, OpenCode and Cline, in any direction. It can also reopen a session natively in the same tool. Everything stays on your machine. Nothing is uploaded, and secrets are redacted from the brief. The brief is passed by file path, never pasted into the command line. In the video, Claude Code gets partway through summarizing a repo, and Codex finishes the job 👇
