Trading bot gates decisions with Jev, cutting daily cost from $180 to $19
The author splits a single frontier model into four layers: signal, Jev gating, Claude writing, and code execution, with Jev handling 90% of skip-or-escalate decisions at near-zero cost.
My agent made $1,700 while I was asleep. It cost me $19 a day to run. I stopped running one big model for everything. That's the whole trick. One frontier model making every call is like paying a $600k analyst to answer yes/no all day. I replaced it with one cheap door and three narrow jobs: SIGNAL -> reads the tick. No model. JEV -> answers skip or escalate. $0.042 per million tokens, output free. CLAUDE -> writes only the ~10% that get through. ACTION -> runs in code. Same 10,000 checks. Ungated Opus is ~$180 a day. Gated is ~$19. The other ~$161 never becomes a call. And the $19 is almost all Claude writing the 10%. The deciding part - JEV, the other 90% - is basically free.
