Building a refusal log for Grok Bot to record blocked and skipped actions
The post proposes logging every refusal in /workspace/state/chief_log.md with five fields (request, decision, boundary triggered, missing evidence, next move), and rules that a task counts as failed if there is no log entry.
THE MOST VALUABLE GROK BOT FILE IS NOT MEMORY. BUILD A REFUSAL LOG BEFORE SILENT FAILURES START LOOKING SAFE. most people audit what Grok Bot completed. that misses the dangerous half. while reviewing the system, I found the missing layer: refusals need receipts too. create /workspace/state/chief_log.md and require these 5 fields after every blocked or skipped action: 1. request › exact instruction, timestamp, and account or system affected. 2. decision › completed, parked, refused, or killed. one state only. 3. boundary triggered › irreversible action, external message, money, deletion, missing source, missing field, or secret handling. 4. missing evidence › name the source, date, approval, or field needed to continue. never write “need more context.” 5. next move › ask for YES, NO, or DEFER {hours}. remind once after 24 hours, then close and log it. add one rule: if there is no log entry, the task failed, even when Grok Bot claims it acted safely. memory tells Grok Bot what happened. the refusal log proves whether its boundaries actually worked. save this template before giving any bot access to your inbox, files, money, or public accounts.
