Jev pre-filter cuts Claude Code agent runs from 1,200 to 180 a month
A solo maintainer puts Jev in front of Claude Code to ask five bounded questions first, closing duplicates directly and starting the agent only when code actually needs writing.
SOLO MAINTAINER MARTA KOWAL JUST PUT JEV IN FRONT OF CLAUDE CODE AND CUT AGENT RUNS FROM 1,200 TO 180 A MONTH opening an agent session on every new issue is expensive before the agent even knows the issue is a duplicate. issue → harness → Jev → close / Claude Code / maintainer → tests → CI log → draft PR → review → next issue jev asks 5 bounded questions first: duplicate, has repro, which area, severity, agent or human. claude code only starts when the answers say code actually needs writing. duplicates get closed by plain code, no model writes anything. security and billing go to a person. claude code gets one folder and one job instead of the whole repo. the math: 1,200 issues x 3k tokens = 3.6M tokens on jev, about $0.15 for the month. the bill now depends on how many issues reach claude, not on jev. that's the part i care about: the cheap model answers the yes/no questions, and the expensive one only opens the repo when there's a patch to write.
