Astra agent's one question cut half of a 4-agent workflow
The author built four agents to run a data task in sequence; after being asked what the final output was meant to change, they removed two intermediate steps, realizing automation shouldn't just copy manual steps.
my GPT-6 Astra agent asked me one question that killed half my workflow i had built 4 agents around a task i’d been doing manually for months one collected the data one cleaned it one analyzed it one turned everything into the final report the system worked but every run produced dozens of files and handoffs before I got the thing I actually wanted then one agent hit an ambiguous input and asked what the final output was supposed to change i wrote one sentence and immediately realized agents 2 and 3 existed mostly because I had copied my human workflow into AI so I deleted them the first agent now collected directly into the format the final agent needed same source same final report 2 fewer agents almost no intermediate files and far fewer places for the workflow to break i thought automation meant teaching AI every step I used to take it doesn’t if AI can remove the step, automating it is just preserving your inefficiency
