GPT-6 Astra unexpectedly solves a topological reasoning task
A researcher says Astra found viable solutions to the MindTopo topological reasoning tasks, taking 1 hour 40 minutes on the first and over 8 hours on the second, raising questions about reasoning ability and transferable structure.
@qineng_wang has been working on topological reasoning for a while (see MindTopo http://mind-topo.github.io). Surprised to see GPT-6 Astra pull it off. It took hours to search a viable solution (1h40m for the first task, and 8+ hours for the second), reinforcing my belief that the reasoning ability is the core. What excites me is whether models can abstract reusable topological structure through search, and use that structure as transferable skills to make the next problem easier to solve.
