Longtime Pro user cancels after usage cut and Astra code damage
A Pro subscriber since 2024 says the $200 tier's usage halves from October 30 and the $500 tier now matches the old Pro, and that bugs left by Astra remain in his codebase weeks later, so he plans to cancel when his credits expire on December 31.

This is the worst possible timing for OpenAI to change the Pro plan. Starting October 30, Pro 200 gets cut in half, and the new $500 plan is basically what the $200 plan used to be. The old Pro gave you 20x the Plus usage for $200, and now 25x costs $500. That's 2.5 times the price for 25% more usage, and they announced it one week after Anthropic shipped Opus 5.5 and raised its limits. I've paid for Pro since it launched in 2024, and I kept it no matter what because I thought the Pro model made it worth it. A month ago I probably would have upgraded to the $500 plan without thinking twice. Now I would rather pay for two Claude Code accounts than one OpenAI account, even though one account with Opus 5.5 already feels close to unlimited. I also lost some trust in Astra. It's incredibly smart, but it can also be incredibly dumb, and I still feel the damage it did to my codebase weeks later. Every time I find a bug or a crazy logic mistake that shouldn't be there, I trace it back to the sessions where I let Astra take the lead on my project. So unless something changes or OpenAI drops a crazy good model in the next two months, I'm canceling when my 62,500 credits expire on December 31. It will be the first time I've let my Pro subscription lapse since 2024. (OpenAI sent me this gift for being a Pro subscriber since they launched it.)
