Nano Banana 2.1 seen as Google's answer to OpenAI Image 2.5
The author reads Google's Nano Banana 2.1 release as a response to OpenAI's Image 2.5 and expects a stronger Nano Banana 3 or 4 built on Gemini 4 Argon.
Google just released Nano Banana 2.1, and I think this is their response to OpenAI dropping Image 2.5. OpenAI Image 2.5 is probably the closest we’ve seen AI image generation get to looking genuinely realistic, and Google definitely is not going to sit back. Remember when Nano Banana was one of the best image models out there before OpenAI took the lead with Image 2.1 and then 2.5. My guess is Google is going to start pushing image models much faster from here. And with Gemini 4 Argon already here, I’m very optimistic we eventually see a much stronger Nano Banana model built around the Gemini 4 generation. Maybe Nano Banana 3, 3.9 or 4. Who knows One thing is clear though, Google is still very much in this race.
