Instinct's take-rate bet runs into a trust problem
A commenter argues Instinct's focus on transaction take rates makes it hard to resist building an ads business, and once users suspect recommendations are paid for, trust erodes, which matters most for a general-purpose personal agent.
makes sense that instinct is focused on transactions because they really are the not-fun part of online behavior. but wanting to be a take rate biz means it’ll be hard to resist building an ads biz of their own. brands will inevitably want to influence traffic and the moment users think instinct’s recommendations are influenced by who pays, trust gets harder. tricky for a general-purpose personal agent where trust is basically the product.
