Six places to use Jev for decisions in a production AI system
The author lists model routing, guardrails, tool-call gating, reranking, LLM evals and confidence gating as six places to use Jev instead of an LLM for fast, cheap judgments.

There are 6 places I'd use Jev in a production AI system: (And none of them involve replacing the LLM) Jev is @typesafeai's zero-shot frontier classifier, known as a decision model. So instead of using it for generation, I'd use it for the fast decisions happening around the LLM call. This makes it useful for the small decisions happening around an LLM call. For example, here are 6 places I'd use Jev instead of an LLM: 1/ Model routing Take the user's prompt and decide which model should handle it. Simple task → cheaper model Complex task → stronger model 2/ Guardrails Check prompts for security risks before they ever reach your LLM. 3/ Tool-call gating Your agent wants to execute a tool. Jev can classify the action into a permission category before it runs: Allow → Ask for approval → Block Claude Code's auto mode uses a similar idea… it dynamically decides whether a tool call is safe to execute without asking you first. 4/ Reranking Retrieve 50 passages, score each one against the query, then send only the most relevant context to your LLM. 5/ LLM evals Instead of using another expensive LLM to judge every output, use Jev to evaluate it and return a pass/fail score. This gets interesting when you're running thousands of evals. 6/ Confidence gating Decide what happens based on confidence. High confidence → continue Low confidence → escalate The takeaway: Not every decision in an AI system needs the biggest, smartest model available. Sometimes you just need a fast, super-cheap decision. And depending on the model, Jev can make those decisions 10-100x cheaper than using an LLM. So save the expensive intelligence for where you need it.
