Hardware cost of running DeepSeek V4.1 Flash locally vs a $3–5k budget

A user pushes back on local-deployment advice: a $3–5k machine only runs quantized 27–32B models, while DeepSeek V4.1 Flash needs 4x RTX PRO 6000 or 4x DGX Spark, so frontier API subscriptions remain the realistic path.

Let’s be real. For most people, $3–5k is just about what they can afford for a decent computer (or a used 24GB GPU plus the rest of the build). Your setup is on a completely different level. You have 21x 3090s + 4x 4090s + 4x 5090s + Tenstorrent cards in the house (33 GPUs total), stacked a lot of those 3090s starting back in 2023 when used ones were going for ~$600-800 (just those 21 cards alone was around $15k even at the cheaper prices), and you’re also running models like DeepSeek v4.1 Flash on 4x RTX PRO 6000s or 4x DGX Sparks. Even buying when it was cheaper, that’s tens of thousands in hardware. And correct me if I’m wrong but you also supplement it with a Claude/OpenAI subscription, right? The best us mortals can swing on a $3–5k machine is a quantized 27-32B model (Qwen3.8-27B, Gemma 4 31B, etc.). The bigger near-frontier MoEs still need way more. Am I missing something? What path are you actually recommending for a normal person on a normal computer budget who’s trying to ship production-ready code? Because from what I see, none of the realistic local options can touch a frontier API subscription. I’m sure like me all developers want nothing more than to run things locally and have full privacy and control but this reality does not exist yet.
