A sea moss company spent fifteen minutes asking an AI what its customers wanted. The answer became a product now headed to Whole Foods, Target, and Sprouts. The AI is Siena, a customer service platform for consumer brands, built in New York by Andrei Negrau and Lisa Popovici. Negrau is the CEO and Popovici is the president. Siena started with a narrow job. Its AI agent answers shoppers for ecommerce brands, handling order tracking, returns, refunds, and subscription changes. Negrau says the first version shipped around the end of 2022, and the company raised a $4.7 million seed round led by Sierra Ventures. Hundreds of consumer brands now use it, including FIGS, Spanx, and HexClad. Siena says it automates up to 80% of customer interactions. The VP of CX at Spanx says it handles 50% of their conversations at over 90% customer satisfaction, cut handle time in half, and that customers ask for it by name. The sea moss story came from a newer tool called Ask Siena, which lets a brand question its own customer conversations. True Sea Moss's CMO says fifteen minutes with it showed that people wanted to try other flavors without buying a full jar. That became a sampler stick pack. Every support chat holds that kind of signal, and most brands never read it. Negrau calls Siena's answer the Agent of Record, a shared memory of what each customer bought, returned, reviewed, and asked about, which the support, shopping, and social agents all draw on. Yesterday, Siena announced a $17 million Series A led by York IE, with Joyance Ventures and existing investors Aglaé Ventures and Sierra Ventures joining. Total funding is now $29.7 million, and the money goes toward building more autonomous agents.
