Cap adds transcript-based video editing, word-level local transcription, shapes and numbered badges, 11 new transitions, and an AI agent that auto-repairs broken recordings.
Another fun day. Lots done. I'm a solo founder… and a team of 1. Sandchest reached 10 customers, and @Cap is on track for another record month of revenue. Now has over 80k monthly active users! This is of course all while being busy with life stuff. We're getting a new kitchen and redecorating the whole downstairs of our house, so I've been stripping out the old kitchen ready for the fitters and clearing out junk. Oh and I'm also flying to Miami on Friday 😁 Here's what I shipped today: Cap: - Fought off a hacker. Someone spent the night trying to use Cap's GPU servers to get into our internal systems. Nothing got through. They're banned, the servers are locked down, and I get an alert the moment anything like that happens again. - Ran a full security audit of Cap and fixed nearly everything it found the same day. Rate limits on passwords, invites, view tracking and downloads, much tighter permission checks - Edit recordings by editing the transcript. Delete a word and it's cut from the video - Local transcription that's word-for-word, with exact timings for every word, so cuts land right on the gap - Shapes. Drop arrows, boxes, circles, highlights and numbered step badges onto your video in the Cap Editor - 11 new transitions, plus a new transition picker. Transitions now work between clips you've split. - Recordings keep going when your Mac idles, pause cleanly before it sleeps, and interrupted recordings open properly and no longer corrupt. - Automatic recording fixes built right into Cap. If a recording won't open, an AI agent works out what's wrong and fixes it for you. If it can't, you can send it straight to us in one click. This is going to be huge. - Referral tracking and partner discounts working again. There was a bug which could cause incorrect tracking. Taking our partner program much more seriously now with faster payouts. A lot of this is coming in Cap v0.6.3, hopefully out tomorrow! Sandchest: - A live demo of the dashboard, so you can try it before signing up. - Your first deep scan now starts the moment you pay. - Duplicate findings are merged into one, and fixed ones are marked correctly on push. - Severity for findings based on what an attack could actually do. - Vulnerable dependencies only flagged when your app is actually exposed. - Built a much better harness for the scanner. Compared to yesterday: - 19% fewer false findings - More real bugs confirmed (86% → 88%) - Scans can no longer hang. - Testing a change is ~20x cheaper, so every change gets measured before we ship it to prod (to prevent any regressions etc) I also reviewed 110 different contributor PRs, merged 42 and closed 75 issues! Some days I stop and think about how lucky I am. Building things that I love, with people I love around me, and getting to do it every day. I'm living my dream, and I don't take a second of it for granted. I love this life 🫡
