GPT-6 Astra designs a protein not found in nature in about a minute
A researcher asked GPT-6 Astra for a jellyfish protein fused to an immune signaling molecule, and it ran AlphaFold and returned a 3D structure in about a minute; the poster notes a good-looking structure doesn't prove it folds and wet-lab queues will get longer.
Derya Unutmaz asked GPT-6 Astra for a protein that doesn't exist in nature. Glowing jellyfish protein fused to an immune signaling molecule. It ran AlphaFold and handed back a 3D structure in about a minute. Honestly, cool. But AlphaFold will give you a confident, beautiful structure whether or not the thing folds in a real cell. Someone still has to go make it and find out. I'd bet wet lab queues get a lot longer this year.
