Seven Jev patterns for building AI agents
A checklist for agent engineering with Jev decisions plus code constraints, covering classifying before routing, voting allow/block/escalate on risky tools, confidence thresholds, loop stop checks, intent triage and verifying the last step.
7 Jev skills everyone building AI agents should know 1.) Route before you reason Classify hard vs easy. Send cheap work to a small model. Save frontier calls for real problems. 2.) Gate risky tools Before shell, spend, delete or email Jev votes allow / block / escalate. 3.) Confidence thresholds Act when probability is high. Otherwise retry, rephrase, or hand to a human. 4.) Stop-the-loop checks Every N steps: useful progress or spinning? Kill infinite agents early. 5.) Intent + domain triage Label the request once, then load the right prompt, tools and memory don’t re-discover every turn. 6.) Verify the last step Did the tool output actually help? Pass/fail the trajectory before the next LLM call. 7.) Pair with code, not vibes Jev decides. Your harness enforces policy. LLMs write and plan. LLMs think. Jev decides. Code constrains.
