Claude Duet as a separate app draws skepticism on positioning
A critic says Anthropic already has Cowork as its main agent, so launching Claude Duet as yet another app looks like a box ticked for the IPO, and it must beat expectations to justify a new subscription surface.
Launching Claude Duet as a new app doesn’t signal much confidence about where Anthropic wants to take it. Grok Bot worked as a bet on an entirely different user surface, because it didn’t make sense inside Cursor. Anthropic is in a very different position. It already has Cowork as its primary agentic worker, which was a natural evolution of Claude Code for everyday work tasks. OpenAI seems to have fumbled the initial launch of Dots, but it was directionally right to keep everything in one place. It probably needs a new training run centered on Dots to get it right, but that’s coming. Anthropic really needs to exceed expectations here to justify “yet another agent app” on top of the subscriptions users already have. If we’re being cynical, it reads like a box being ticked for the IPO narrative.
