Sonnet 5.5 rumored for next week, reportedly beats GPT-6 Astra in several areas
A leak claims Sonnet 5.5 may launch next week, possibly timed to coincide with OpenAI DevDay, with early results showing it outperforming GPT-6 Astra in several areas.
From what I’m hearing, Sonnet 5.5 is very close and the current expectation is a launch next week. The timing is interesting. I wouldn’t be surprised if Anthropic intentionally lined it up with OpenAI’s DevDay window to pull some of the attention back toward Claude a few days later. And based on the early results I’ve seen, this model is seriously impressive. Sonnet 5.5 is already outperforming GPT-6 Astra in several areas I care about. That’s the part I find almost absurd. Sonnet is supposed to sit well below something like Fable 5.5 in Anthropic’s lineup, yet it’s already performing at this level. If the release checkpoint holds up, this is going to put a lot of pressure on OpenAI.
