A few OpenAI employees have been replying to posts suggesting that Opus 5.5 caught them off guard and that OpenAI has no real answer to it. From the way they’re responding, it increasingly looks like we may actually get an answer to Opus 5.5 at DevDay, so I’m now expecting some kind of powerful model launch. GPT-6.1 Astra, maybe? I still haven’t been able to confirm that internally, so I don’t want to present it as fact. But the signals, emojis, vague replies, and timing are starting to point in a very similar direction. At this point, I’d call it extremely plausible.
