Report: GPT-6.1 Astra October launch canceled over safety concerns
According to the WSJ, the GPT-6.1 Astra launch planned for October was canceled, and while DevDay still claims 20+ launches, the main event appears to have been pulled.
Sam Altman reposted a great article that basically argues that “OpenAI won’t win just because it has the best model...” which, to me, suggests they’re fully aware Anthropic currently has the edge there. And now, according to the WSJ, the GPT-6.1 Astra launch planned for October has literally been canceled. Yes, canceled. For safety reasons. So what exactly is left for DevDay? They’re still talking about 20+ launches, but the “main” thing many of us expected to challenge Opus 5.5 has apparently been taken off the board. Honestly, that makes me even more curious about what they’re actually planning to show tomorrow.
