Long read on Typesafe and Jev's strategic positioning
An investor's long post argues Jev should be given away free to build frontier-level trust, and imagines a unified API service built on Jev similar to OpenRouter.
as ted lasso says there is a reason the windshield is bigger than the rear-view mirror. at this point Typesafe is it’s own major frontier lab. the need is to leverage a further free Jev to back into all of it (from LLM to harness to agents), and one of the ingredients is price discovery by capital markets. wall street priced cerebras at $100 billion in opening days. it wasn’t even particularly popular. it’s because capital markets are hungry for AI stocks on which they can attach an exponential growth momentum story. the frontier labs ahead of IPO need you now more than you need them, so they actually won’t make a high-price acquisition offer because it guarantees the story further shifts to you and you rejecting their offer would derail their IPO. they will launch a free Jev alternative ASAP at-scale, because they have to, and they have to pretend you don’t exist or were a blip in the radar. the Jev model you have is rapidly building frontier-level trust with the world. this is not the product you make money on. this is the one you give away for free, limitless. (in the future) why should a jeveloper have to use decisions from Jev with a model from another lab ? why not build an openrouter-like service plugged with Jev in the interim so that it is just one API key experience ? this is also a further clue if you don’t become a frontier lab, the frontier labs have to try to become you in anycase. it is their manifest destiny. a better Instinct can and will be built with Jev. so will many other startups. embrace your destiny. I am excited for Monday when LinkedIn discovers Jev!
