Gemini 4 Carbon early tests: better 3D, weaker frontend

Leaks say Carbon is in partner EAP and LMArena testing, beating Argon at 3D but still weak on frontend, with coding possibly matching Opus 5.5.

Gemini 4 Argon didn’t impress everyone. Google is already moving on to Gemini 4 Carbon and release appears to be much closer than expected. Carbon’s EAP has reportedly started, with select partners already receiving access. It’s also being tested on LMArena, which usually suggests a broader rollout may not be far away. Early impressions so far based off early test: - noticeably better than Argon at 3D - slower, but less lazy - frontend/UI remains a weak point - earlier internal testing suggested its coding performance could be competitive with Opus 5.5 Carbon appears to be Google’s next attempt to address the areas where Argon fell short. There’s still no confirmed release date, but with partner testing and LMArena testing already underway, a late October or early November release looks increasingly plausible. Argon was a solid first step. Carbon now needs to show that Gemini can seriously compete with Opus 5.5 across coding, frontend and agentic work.
