Union Alpha identity guess: author lists evidence pointing to Mistral
The author cites zero data retention, a 262K context window, EU/Spain ties, release timing and Mistral's recent funding as reasons Union Alpha may be Mistral.
Here is why I think that Union Alpha is Mistral. Union Alpha claim that they have zero data retention, they released exactly, released exactly 1 week before Barcelona’s AI Week. Also the same amount of days when the model is going to be free, they have the same context window, and both are in the EU, if they are from the EU they need to have enough capacity to provide 5T tokens daily, the model is called "Union" that could mean European Union. 262,144 context + EU/Spain + Sep 16 -> Sep 23 preview + multimodal/agentic + ZDR language ( what mistral uses ) And a few days ago before Union Alpha appeared Mistral announced a 3B euro "Series D" at a €21B+ valuation, and they said the money will be used to scale compute capacity, infrastructure, and frontier research ;/ Idk just think about it
