Why DeepSeek ships v4.1-flash-1017 instead of v4.2
A user explains that dated sub-versions under an approved v4.1 need no new clearance, while a new v4.2 would require fresh government approval.

Cuz of Chinese government regulations. Once v4.1 is approved, rolling out dated sub-versions (like v4.1-{date}) doesn't require any extra clearance. So deepseek likes to do that. However, releasing a new version like v4.2 requires a brand-new government approval. It’s as simple as that. (As I know.) That's why the model is named deepseek-v4.1-flash-1017 not deepseek-v4.2-flash
