User rebuilds fruit fly connectome as a working brain in Minecraft with Astra
Two days after the complete fruit fly connectome was open-sourced, a user had GPT-6 Astra parse its 166,700 neurons and 125 million synapses and rebuild a running fruit fly brain in Minecraft using only NumPy.
For the first time in history, GPT-6 Astra has shown the anatomy of a fruit fly's brain in detail. On September 3, HHMI Janelia, the University of Cambridge, and Google Research published MaleCNS v1.0, the first complete wiring diagram of an adult fruit fly's entire nervous system, brain, optic lobes, and ventral nerve cord together. Ten years of work. 44 person-years of manual proofreading alone. 166,700 neurons, 125 million synaptic connections, released open source under CC-BY. Two days later, a @ashebytes used GPT-6 Astra to pull that connectome apart neuron by neuron, upstream and downstream connections, cell types, circuit groups, and rebuild it as a working brain inside Minecraft. No neurochip, no GPU cluster, just NumPy and the raw connectome data. Scientists spent ten years mapping that. What Astra did was take an anatomical dataset most people can't parse and turn it into a running simulation.
