Opinion: the AI race is now about owning the consumer, not intelligence

The author argues that marginal gains in frontier intelligence no longer matter to anyone, and that the rise of Muse and Grok Bot shows the winners will be those who own the consumer.

you gotta give it to the market markets oftentimes top 6-12 months ahead of economic conditions. in this case u would not be remiss to make the connection that semis topping = there was a mkt expectation that we reached peak second derivative - acceleration of growth has topped out and indeed it appears it has... ive said this again and again but we really reached a level of intelligence where the incremental increase in frontier is like going from 150iq to 300iq . like no one cares. the big growth was from 70iq to 150iq. and even though OS isnt available at the biz level yet, i expect to see more companies just have their own internal AI that is built on OS models contracted through companies that set up OS AI at the enterprise level... people are also only paying for claude cgpt etc bc its the best chatbot right now. muse and grok bot coming up shows that is evidently not true. the most important thing in the AI race now is owning the consumer. not intelligence.
