holy sh*t. sam altman (ceo of openai) didn't mention this... i checked my logs and i've been overpaying this whole time every time you turn effort up mid-chat, everything you already paid for gets charged again most people are losing that money right here Astra has a fix, one line: 1/ {"type": "configuration_update", "reasoning": {"effort": "high"}} 2/ put it right before the message you want it for 3/ leave reasoning.effort in the request alone it stays until you change it. standard model only, pro doesn't take it.
