dot.com 域名提前两月被 xAI 买走

作者从域名与商标公开记录推断,xAI 在 OpenAI 公布 Dots 前两个月就买下 dot.com,疑似提前读到发布信号。

The http://dot.com domain transferred to xAI in July. OpenAI didn't announce Dots until this morning. Someone had a two month head start on the punchline. Domain transfers are public record, and so are trademark filings. Companies quietly lock down their launch domains before the keynote, which means anyone watching Whois or the USPTO database can sometimes read a product name months before it hits the stage. Either the July transfer is a wild coincidence, or somebody at xAI read the signals early and bought a joke with a 60 day fuse. The innocent explanation doesn't survive a Whois check. If xAI grabbed http://dot.com to catch people mistyping http://bot.com, they'd own http://bot.com. They don't. http://Vot.com is sitting on the open market right now. And http://dots.com, the exact match for OpenAI's product name, still belongs to a company that went under years ago. Nobody in San Francisco secured the obvious domains before putting the name on a giant screen. Elon knows this game better than almost anyone. He spent years getting http://x.com back from PayPal purely because he loved the name, then rebranded a $44 billion company around it. When a one word .com changes hands, he understands exactly what it costs and exactly what it signals. xAI paid for one domain. The two month head start came free.
