google hasn't even shipped argon yet and they're already cooking something better. business insider reports that employees are testing a new gemini 4 model called carbon, with one saying it feels comparable to opus 5.5 for coding. earlier versions of argon felt closer to the older opus 5 on some coding tasks. so it's unclear whether carbon is a newer checkpoint of argon or an entirely different gemini 4 model.
