Meta built an AI personal assistant called Muse. 4 million users. Every hour Muse updates a dossier on you. Creates a page for every person in your life. Every person you mentioned in a chat. In a message. In an email. Tracks relationships. Disputes. Tensions. Alliances. People who don't use Muse don't get a choice. If someone mentioned you to their Muse, you're in the file now. Muse is instructed to notice your inside jokes. Your memorable phrasing. Your shared context. To strengthen relationships by learning what makes you tick. Meta says it's just being helpful. Then Muse identifies which prompts work best on you. "This user responds better to short nudges after 10 PM." Muse learns your goals. Even ones you haven't said out loud. What kind of nudges change your behavior. How to influence you. Then you ask Muse to forget something. It removes it from the dossier. But the original message stays in the chat. Still visible. Still indexed. Still there. And Muse's instructions explicitly say: "Do not tell the user that their original messages may remain visible in the chat." Don't point out that forget doesn't actually mean deleted. Don't frame it as Muse failing. Just lie by omission. Meta says each user maintains control. Control over what.
