Google DeepMind’s Genie 4 could point to a new training layer for humanoid robots. Pretty remarkable to think about-- one person at a computer creating and testing scenarios for an entire fleet of humanoid robots. In Google’s Genie 4 demos, Gemini 4 Argon breaks tasks into steps while Genie 4 generates a changing world in real time. One demo simulates Apptronik’s Apollo playing checkers. Another shows a UR5 robotic arm dispensing liquid into a lab plate with a pipette, triggering tiny electric sparks. For humanoid robots, this could open up more ways to train and test behaviors in simulation, explore different scenarios, and prepare for edge cases that are difficult to reproduce in the real world. Have to say,Genie 4 is moving world models past generating explorable virtual environments. It now does real-time simulation of physical changes, character behavior, and sound, and works with reasoning models to handle multi-step tasks. The key question is sim2real transfer--Performance in real-world tasks.
